Is it OK to get a clone GM Tech2? Work as a real Tech 2?

I hope this review can help someone with the same puzzles as me.

Here, i wanna firstshare what i found about the genuine and clone Tech2 with you all...

Read info there and talked to the customer service staff... Decided to take a risk.. YES! I ordered it there.

So far, i have used it for a few data. The cheap one still works great. I don’t know how the genuine works but i am satisfied with the clone one.

My friend who has ever used a genuine tech 2, says the clone’s screen is much brighter and buttons feel kind of different- buttons on the original have a distinct "click" feel to them while the clones are mushy

The only thing I'm disappointed by that I didn't get the case. The other forum member stated that the price would be much more if you got the case. I wish I had done some more research because I found several sellers selling the same thing with the case for around the same price. However, I did feel more comfortable buying that from the same source as the other member.

It will work on any GM OBD2, meaning 1996+; now it’s updated to 2013.

Under the 2012 models it lists Chevrolet, Cadillac and Holden

I have used the GM Tech2 to reset IMMO for my OPEL Corsa-C 2005
Plug GM Tech2 cable into OPEL Corsa-C socket;
Boot up GM Tech2 diagnostic tool;

Enter into Main Menu;
Click Diagnostics to select car model and year;
Click Body >> Immobilizer >> Partnumber >> Additional Functions >> Reset Immobilizer, next you need to enter security code.

Step3:
Operate according to the tips, until it appears message reading “Reset Immobilize. Reset completed successfully!” It is Okay.

Tech 2 TIS2000 Cannot Connect with Error 666 (SOLVED)

Tried to do SPS/TIS programming, etc. with my GM Tech 2 scanner. But I cant get it to work when i connected to my PC with windows XP system! Stupid serial ports, I don’t know why GM has not made the Tech 2 USB yet. Most computers don’t even come with legacy ports anymore.

It’s almost as if the Tech 2 knows the PC is there, but the PC doesn’t know the Tech 2 is there. Because when I plug it in and turn on the Tech 2, it says "waiting for download" for a second on the tech 2 screen. When I try to connect with the PC, it hangs for a second then says "cannot connect".

Surfed the Internet and read many posts.

And finally found that there is a setting that is kind of hard to find that will set COM port.

It's under CONFIGURATION>I/O MANAGEMENT>TECH2>PROPERTIES.

Normal TIS2000 software that comes with it requires a USB security dongle. Go figure. TIS2000 is COM yet the security is USB. This REALLY screws up things sometimes.

If you do need the dongle and don't have one, it will error with:
E666: Access to Service Programming Server was denied.

I happened to meet with this issue before. This can also mean it doesn't "see" the dongle, and you forgot to install the dongle driver.
