Ktag and Kess v2 ecu programming review

Bought a bundle of Ktag and kess v2 last week.

And the kit arrived today. Shipped from China.
Attempting to use the ecu programmers this weekend.
Installed all appropriate software.

I run it on Windows xp

Edit: i successfully tested on some ECUs using the ktag and kess. Used without network connection.

Chinese pcb but high quality, i have this kess and ktag pcb in my old clones ( kess v2 fw: v4.036 and ktag fw: v6.070 and work well without any fault, also work with 24v)

 

kess and ktag tested in old ecus, works perfect (Sim 32, edc15p+, me7.5, me7.5.10, me7.5.30, Edc17c54, etc)

In short, KESS V2 is perfect for OBD use, while KTag is perfect for Jtag, BDM and all the Boot application (tricore and ST10).

With KESS V2 you programming directly through the OBD port of the vehicle, while with Ktag you need to take apart the ECU and  open it, after you can make the read/write operation.

Many ECU has the advantage that can be read and write from OBD port (so KESS V2 is perfect), but there are lot ECU that need to disassemble from the car and open and this is the case for all the ECU that need to be programmed with Jtag, BDM and Boot protocols, so KTAG is needed. And that is why i bought Ktag and kess v2 together.

Checksum Family Manual for ECM Titanium v1.61

What is Checksum?
Checksum is the security algorithm with which are encoded files stored inside the engine control units; if the modified files you are tuning, it wasn’t signed with the correct Checksum algorithm, and the ECU will be blocked.

It is very important to know whether the device used for program the tuned file to the ECU already running CheckSum or not; Some ECU tuning tools, like Kess V2 and Ktag, are developed to calculate the CheckSum and you don’t need to buy the same Checksum family also for ECM Titanium.

Why you need Checksum Family?
To correct the Checksum of modified file using the new ECM Titanium, you must have the Checksum Family for that particular ECU.

What will happen if you don’t choose the right Checksum family?
Once you have selected the Driver for tuning the original file, the software will notify you if the ECM DataBase contains the Checksum family needed for signing the modified file. If you haven’t the right Checksum family software will shows the following message:
Checksum algorithm not available - a file with no checksum changes will be created

If the message appeared, the software will return to the main window and the CheckSum Family box, in the Selected Driver panel, will be colored in red and will present the number of CheckSum Family to download.

Where is the CheckSum Families?
To find out which CheckSum Families are in your ECM Titanium, you just
go in the main software window,
choose the menu Tools,
choose Checksum,
then click on Available Checksum

a new window will open with the list of Available Checksum Families:

available families that are stored on the USB dongle are colored green
ALL checksum families available in this cracked ECM TITANIUM 1.61

Some free versions or uncracked version on the web cannot offer all checksum families available

those in red are not present

How to download a new Checksum family from Internet?
You don’t connect to the Internet to download a new Checksum family on your own. All checksum families are available in ECM TITANIUM 1.61 at http://www.obdexpress.co.uk/

Please note: Software V2.22/V2.08 ( If you run V2.22 version, please disconnect the internect. V2.08 can run under internet connecting.

1.Open “My Network Places”,click View network connections”, disable the three network connections as follow

2.Open My computer\E:\DVD Ksuite truck, open Ksuite v2.08, click Ksuite icon file, install Ksuite as hint step by step.

3.Open Ksuite on the desktop, right click properties—click “Find Target “on the bottom, open c:\ Ksuite, delete the all file of c:\ Ksuite

Next copy the all file E:\ Ksuite v2.08\ksuite to c:\ Ksuite.
4.Open Ksuite truck(E:), copy file “help’ to c:\ Ksuite.
5.Insert new hardware wizard and install the software step by step as hint.
6.Right click “manage” of My Computer, then pop up “computer management”,click “Device Manager” on the left

next we will find “Universal Serial Bus controllers” on the right bottow, click its front plus, then click USB Device.

7.Open Ksuite on the desktop, click the first icon on the left to see car type, choose the type as follows

Then click two ok , next select CAN/ID, click ok as hint step by step.

8.Save ID as e90 on the desktop

9.Select READING,click ok by step, then pop up “proceed to read?”, click ok. After reading ECU, save as e90 on the desktop. Then “wait analyzing Log in progress...”, click back.
10.We can try to test other car type as the same way before.
